April 2003 Minnesota High Point Road Trip Itinerary
Drove from Minneapolis to the trail-head, hiked, and returned, all in one long day.
May 2003 South Dakota-North Dakota High Point Road Trip Itinerary
Drove from Minneapolis to Custer, SD. Stayed one night. Hiked the SD high point and the "Little Devils's Tower." Drove to ND high point and hiked. Stayed the night in Dickenson, ND. Drove home.
May 2003 Wisconsin-Michigan High Point Road Trip Itinerary
Drove from Minneapolis to Wisconsin HP and summited with Laura. Drove to Michigan HP and hiked. Stayed the night in Houghton, MI. Drove home.
July 2003 Colorado High Point Road Trip Itinerary
Flew from Minneapolis to Denver. Stayed 3 nights in the Colorado Springs area. Drove up Pike's Peak. Took Ann to airport, and headed west. Stayed in Silverthorne for 4 nights. Hiked Mt. Elbert. After one recovery day, hiked Mt. Massive (3rd highest). Next day, returned to Denver Airport and flew home.
Summer 2003 High Point Road Trip Itinerary
8/23/03 Start. Did not visit SPAM(tm) museum. Visited Effigy Mound National Monument in Iowa. Drove by trailhead for Illinois HP and recorded waypoint. Stayed in Bloomington, IL. 539 miles.
8/24/03 Summit Indiana. Failed Ohio on this try. Didn't have special access instructions until later. Stayed in Wheeling, WV. 529 miles.
8/25/03 Summit West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. Stayed in Hershey, PA 2 nights so Ann could visit the Hershey factory. 520 miles.
8/27/03 Summit Deleware and New Jersey. Stayed in Matamoros, PA. 275 miles.
8/28/03 Summit Connecticut and Massachusetts. Stayed in Lee, MA. 192 miles.
8/29/03 Stayed in East Windsor CT 2 nights. 73 miles.
8/31/03 Summit Rhode Island. Stayed in Millinocket, Me 2 nights. 437 miles.
9/1/03 Summit Maine.
9/2/03 Summit New Hampshire. Visited Ben and Jerry's. Stayed in Waterbury, VT. 354 miles.
9/3/03 Summit Vermont. Stayed in Lake Placid, NY 2 nights. 161 miles.
9/4/03 Summit New York.
9/5/03 Drove to Niagara Falls. Went to the falls. 354 miles.
9/6/03 Summit Ohio. Did not stop at Dan Quayle Museum in Indiana. Stayed in Mendota, IL. 707 miles.
9/7/03 Summit Illinois. Returned home. 452 miles.
Mid September 2003 High point Road Trip Itinerary
An opportunity presented itself later in September to bag some more highpoints. I found a Cyber-saver fare on the NWA website that included a rental car and did 6 more highpoints. Put 2300 miles on the rental car.
9/18/03 Flew into St. Louis. Drove to Perryville, MO to stay the night.
9/19/03 Summited Missouri and Arkansas. Stayed in Mt. Ada, AR.
9/20/03 Summited Louisiana. Stayed in Pensacola, FL.
9/21/03 Summited Florida and Alabama. Stayed in Cullman, AL.
9/22/03 Summited Mississippi. Stayed in Port Girardeau, MO.
9/23/03 Flew home from St. Louis.
Mid October 2003 High point Road Trip Itinerary
Another opportunity presented itself later in October to bag the last 6 highpoints east of the Mississippi River. I found a Cyber-saver fare on the NWA website that included a rental car and did these highpoints. Put 900 miles on the rental car.
10/10/03 Flew into Knoxville, TN. Drove to Sevierville, TN to stay the night.
10/11/03 Summited Tennessee, Georgia, and South Carolina. Stayed in MtAsheville, NC.
10/12/03 Summited North Carolina and Kentucky. Stayed in Bristol, TN.
10/13/03 Summited Virginia. Stayed in Knoxville, TN. Discovered Blount County is DRY.
10/14/03 Flew home from Knoxville.
