The 2005 Nepal adventure began April 26th. This was an extension to the Friendly Planet 'Taj Mahal Express' tour.
4/26 Arrived in Kathmandu, Nepal from Dehli, India.
4/27 Kathmandu. Bhadgaon, Copper gateway, Durbur Square, Nyatapola temple ...
4/28 Kathmandu. Hanuman Dhoka, Mahadev & Parvati temple, Machhender Bahl ...
4/29 Mt. Everest flying tour on Buddha Airlines. Rural trip and short mountain hike.
4/30 Departed Kathmandu for Dehli, India.
5/1 Departed Dehli, India for JFK via Air India, 3 hours late.

Only 16 of our original group of 26 continued on to Nepal.

The time zone diference from India to Nepal is 15 minutes. The difference from New York is 9 hours, 45 minutes.

Our accomodations at the Hyatt were very nice. There were roving guards on the 38 acre campus. Service and food were excellent. Still, $70 to phone home for 16 minutes seems like gouging.

NOTE: Even though places like Nepal sound fun and exotic, some of my friends and relatives would have been extremely uncomfortable there. It is necessary to be concerned about immunizations, insect repellent, food and water safety, pick-pockets, and terrorism. Every member of our tour, except for 2 of us, suffered stomach or GI problems. If any of this bothers you, it might be better for you to do less exotic travel. At the time of this trip, the US State Department had a travel warning issued for Nepal, because of Maoist guerrilla activity in the Kathmandu valley.
